Lost Cable Help?

Ok we played a show last night at Sherlock's and I get this email in our mailbox from Graham, the bass player for the Josh Goode band:

"Someone left an instrument cable--not sure if its your band's. If you're missing one, please provide a detailed description, including length, scratch and kinks location, identifying marks, colour, input jacks description, noise level etc etc (a personality profile of the cable will be especally helpful). Also please provide original sales receipt and at least three (3) photographs of Monkeyshyne playing at different venues using the exact cable in question (these must be photographs where the cable is the subject of the picture--ie: not in the background). Also, a detailed description on the circumstances in which said cable went missing at Sherlock's last night, including any eye witnesses that will corraborate your testomony.

Upon receipt of notarized laminated claim form with all the above information, your cable will duly be returned to you.

Thank you and best regards,
Graham

I am pretty sure it is our cable so if anyone has previous pictures of said cable and anyone can vouch for the place and time that the cable was mis-placed last night that would help. I think this is the cable Oz likes to call "Willy"...

What a Weekend

I think that this past weekend was one of the best in a while. Lately we have just been firing on all 3 cylinders, like a well-oiled lawn mower! Thanks to everyone who came out to the shows. We wrote this new song called "High" and its about getting high and WOW we get some serious reaction from it. At first I was a little hesitant to want to play and perform a song about getting high, but then I thought Eric Clapton wrote a song about Cocaine? Not that I am comparing myself with him, just trying to justify it to my conscience.

I am kind of excited this Wednesday night Oz and I get to talk about the music industry and what we have learned. It if from 7:30 to 9:30pm. We talk for an hour then play for an hour. Yes I know we don't appear to be intelligent, most people just think we are pretty boys...well they think Oz is a pretty boy, but we have picked up a thing or two along the way. If you are in a band, the industry or just a fun that is curious come on out. Live Mix @ Standard & Pours 1409 South Lamar Dallas, TX 75215, no cover and $1 off all imports, domestics and wine!

DAMMIT, Oz bring over the new Ashley Simpson CD

I just think part of being an artist is you have major mood swings and this inner void that you have to fill. As I stated in yesterdays blog, having someone like you because you wrote a song they love is unreal. Of course there is the "dark" side to that. The critic that decides you suck green pond scum because you don’t sing out of key and aren’t considered “indie” or “emo”.

I guess we are all guilty of that at one time or another. I can't tell you how many times Oz has come to me with the new Ashley Simpson CD and I have told him "NO, dude I am not going to listen to that SHIT, get it out of my house I just cleaned the floors..." My reason isn't because she can't sing, the reason is I don't like manufactured bubble gum scrape of the bottom of my shoe CRAP. See without even hearing it I have judged it, I am guilty. I guess that is what you call Karma. I guess the only way to make it good is to give that CD a listen. Sorry Oz, my bad...

Let me Explain

Ok, some of you thought my last blog was a negative blog. It was and wasn't. Life is just so damn complex sometimes that it hurts. And I over think EVERYTHING that I do (good reason to start smoking pot). Here is how it all breaks down.

First you grow up and you hear your first song on the radio. From what I can remember mine was "Shout at the Devil" and I thought "How kewl, that you can actually shout at the Devil." That is when it starts. The seed of music gets planted.

Next you go buy a guitar and jam with friends or take some lessons. I remember jamming bits and pieces to songs when I was growing up including intro riff to "Crazy Train" and "Breaking the Law". Your hunger grows and you want more...Then you start your first band. Mine was with 2 other guys, 1 singer and 1 other guitarist. We could never find a drummer. That leads to more bands and more bands and more and more want...

During all this your write your first song. I actually still remember the riff to my first song, and I think we titled it "Melting My Brain Away" (yes Metallica influence there). Then you start recording your songs. As you write and record more you improve and grow. You really start putting yourselves into your "work".

If you are lucky you find some guys that are semi-serious like you and you actually play some gigs. Now this doesn't happen for a lot of musicians. You would think it would be easy to get a band together, but the reality is you have 4 different guys on 4 different schedules. This is when you and your buds start talking about world domination and touring, jokingly at first...

Then if you are even luckier you start getting more serious and you start touring outside of your home town. After you get over the initial shock of "you mean we aren't the greatest band in the world" it becomes a rush trying to win over crowds that have no idea who you are. The energy you feel is like a drug. Having someone love your song as much as the cover song you play is indescribable...

By this time you are pouring your heart, soul, blood, sweat and tears into your music...but then you start to wake up...and realize that the odds of you ever doing this for a living are worse than you winning the lottery...

...1 quick pick please...

One Sad Individual

That would be me. Why? Because I have not created a layer of thick skin yet. I think to much and care too much. Yes that is right I am a sensitive person and have feelings and care about things. I know it sounds very girly, but I can accept that. I think even if someone gave me a million dollars right now I would find a way to make it negative and have some complaint. Not that I complain a lot, just that I don't find happiness very easy. I choose to be unhappy with my current situation. I know that drives me to want to make the situation better, but it also drives me to want to stop quit doing everything. It is a two edged sword. I always say if it was easy everyone would do it, but really after a whole lot of it being hard, I sure wouldn't mind a couple of easy breaks...

Don't know what to do with myself

We have the weekend off and I just don't know what to do with myself...finger painting, nah too messy...video games, nah once I getted started I can't stop...drinking, well yah...sleep, that sounds good...finger painting, still too messy...do yard work, nah thats what the wife is for...write a song, yah, I think I am going to write a song about the world cup. It will go something like this:

Every morning I get up
Its time for the world cup
will USA get spanked again
yah screw you England

Soccer, Football and Coke
What a great game, I need another Coke
Soccer, Football and Coke
I am thirsty I need Coke

Ok that is just a rough draft, but I like what I've got so far. Maybe watching USA get spanked today will give me some inspiration.

Run-Run the Magic Bus

Most people think that being in a rock n roll band is all glamour and fun. Well for the most part it is, we do have a lot of fun. We do get to meet and touch a lot of people with our music. The one part that isn’t so fun sometimes is driving around the Texas and the surrounding states. We jump in the van and travel anywhere from 20 minutes to 4 hours to get to most of our gigs. For the last couple of years we haven’t had an AC and it gets HOT in the south as most of you know. I can say that the conversations and company is always good.

We have had one van for the last 5 years that has gotten us everywhere we needed to go. There is only 1 gig in Austin that we missed because of the fan falling off of the engine. Not a bad track record for a used 89 Ford van. I originally named her “Run-Run” and Oz named her “Don’t Run”, but the love for her was and is still shared by all. Now Run-Run even has a myspace at http://www.myspace.com/monkeyvan, won’t you be her friend.

Yes blue seats and red seats

Yes it is half black and half white, we ran out of paint...

We Are Not Gay

I have heard the comment a couple of times that people think we are gay. We are happy, yes, but not the other kind of gay. Yes we joke around with each other and love each other (in a good game kind of way), but that is about where it all ends. Don’t get me wrong if I was gay I would probably really like this band, I mean man between Oz, Colin and Keith, that is some real eye candy. Oz with his Elvis looking metro sexual look, Colin with his tatted teddy bear look and Keith with his George Clooney gentlemen look, I mean who could resist man or woman. Just to re-clarify we are not gay in a gay way, just happy. I could see where some would become confused, like in the following pictures at first glance you might think gay, but please let me explain.

In this pic it would appear that Keith is kicking up his leg in a "lets go dance ballet" kind of way, WRONG. He actually just landed from a 360 David Lee Roth Death Rock N Roll scissor kick.

In this pic it kind of looks like I am orally pleasuring the mic, WRONG. Actually we just wrote a song about smoking pot and I was pretend taking a bong hit.

In this pic it appears that Colin is rubbing his nipple and Oz is cuddling with Colin...hmmm now that I look at this pic again it does look GAY...

Studio Time

I am excited we have booked some studio time in August. We are ready to get back in the studio and create some of that magic. See for musicians the studio is a great thing. You can finally hear what you think everyone else is hearing when we play our songs. Yes we are only going to put 5 or 6 songs on this one too. We know you are only going to like 1 or 2 anyways so we might as well save your time and our time.

This CD we are not going to put any cover remakes on it, but we are going to remake a couple of older monkeyshyne songs and do them right. Nope I am not going to tell you which songs, well unless you load me up on Jaeger bombs. Those things have a way of making me talk.

The last studio experience we put a lot of time and energy into it and I think we finally recorded something at the next level. I have no doubt with 2 months before we get in the studio we will be able to put some really good stuff together. More updates will be coming soon.

My Sacrafice

I would like to clear something up about this past Sunday and me not going to the Dallas Desperados game with Oz, Colin, Keith and Cliff. We had 6 free tickets thanks to Cliff. Colin mentioned that I did not go because I was off at Bed, Bath and Beyond with my wife. Well that was not the truth, while the guys were our enjoying a day at the American Airlines center I was working on our touring van. That’s right I was out in the hot Sun catching oil drops in my eyes.
The van had a water leak, no AC, an oil leak, transmission leak and a power steering leak. My father was kind enough to help me get some of this work done. If I would have taken it to a shop I am sure that it would have cost $1,000. We ended up fixing the water leak, transmission leak and kind of fixed the AC. And that took 8+ hours.

So you see when I was sacrificing myself for the good of the band everyone else was having a “good” time starring at the cheerleaders. Please don’t worry though, this is the role I have taken since the beginning. GO MONKEYSHYNE!!!

A Little Dispute

I have been accused of rigging the "Who's Hot Or Not" poll on the front of our website last week. And I totally object to that accusation. The one who objected happened to be Big Colin, he said that he had been leading the poll the whole time. Wow that’s not what I remember. I remember ME being the one in the lead. I have no ability to adjust the scores on that poll, it was a fair as fair could be. I am sorry to hear that Colin cannot accept the fact that he is 1 vote less hot than Oz, Keith and I. Colin if I had it my way I would have wanted it to be a 4 way tie, but the people have spoken and I can respect that.

On a totally separate note I found a picture that I had to doctor up. The name was just too perfected on this Album cover. As many of you know my alter ego is Christian Rock, so when I saw this cover I had to envision what monkeyshyne would look like in this picture. I must say we look HOT!!! Well except for Colin he is HOT minus 1…

DAMN, maybe we should use this as our next promo pic...
